Gum Disease Treatment
Did you know that the second most common reason for the extraction of a tooth is gum disease? Second only to tooth decay.
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a common and potentially serious condition that affects the gums and the surrounding tissues supporting the teeth. It typically starts with the buildup of plaque on the teeth. If not removed through brushing and flossing, plaque can harden and further irritates the gums and can lead to inflammation. If you think you may have gum disease, schedule an appointment with Revival Dental today.
Treatment for Gingivitis and Periodontitis
Gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease, characterised by inflammation of the gums (gingiva). Periodontitis is a more advanced stage where bone destruction progresses. It is irreversible but if caught early enough, we can slow down the deterioration and manage the affected tooth/teeth.
A deep cleaning and root planing may be needed if you have gum disease. Minor surgery or a gum graft may also be needed to remove bacteria and stop the spreading of infection if it is more serious.
